Steel Flanges

Overview
There are many types of flanges, and there are many working conditions. How to choose the right flange in the actual situation? The specific selection types and occasions will be talked about in this article.

Types of flanges
Flanges can be classified into weld neck flanges, butt welded neck flanges, socket welded flanges, threaded flanges, orifice flanges, plate flanges, blind flanges, lap joint flanges, ring flanges, anchor flanges and slip on flanges. Among them, it is easy to distinguish threaded flanges from socket welded flanges. Threaded flanges are used for pipes with threaded ends, while socket welded flanges are used for pipes with small diameters that are not easy to butt welded.

Working conditions
Flanges are used for media such as water, air, vacuum, steam, flammable, explosive, moderately hazardous, extremely and highly hazardous and highly toxic media.

The seleciton of the flange
Plate flanges can be adopted for pipes containing water, air, and steam, with pressure less than and equal to 0.3Mpa. The sealing surface for the plate flange is the raised surface. Welded neck slip on flanges can be selected for pipes with vacuum and RF, FM, MT, and G faces can be used. Welded neck slip on flagnes can be used for steam pipes. When the pressure is 4.0Mpa, welded neck slip on flanges can be used with the raised face. Butt welded neck flanges should be used for pressure greater than and equal to 4.0Mpa. FM, MT, G faces should be adopted. Butt welding neck flanges should be used for pipelines with flammable, explosive, moderately hazardous, toxic media. When the nominal pressure is below 4.0Mpa, the butt welding neck flange can be selected, and the sealing surface is RF. When the nominal pressure is greater than or equal to PN4.0Mpa, the butt welding neck flange needs to be selected, and the sealing surfaces are FM, M, T, G, and RJ faces. Butt welding neck flanges should be selected for working conditions such as extremely hazardous and highly hazardous, highly toxic occasions. RF, MF, M, T, G, and RJ faces should be used for the sealing surface of the flange. Butt welding ring loose flanges should be used when the position of the carbon steel pipe and the stainless steel pipe is changed, or the equipment has not been installed on site in advance. This kind of flange has a flexible flange plate, which is very convenient for installation. However, it has a shortcoming, that is, the pressure in this working condition usually does not exceed PN2.5Mpa.
