Installation Guide for Threaded Flanges

Threaded flange is a special type of pipe fitting that facilitates pipe connections more conveniently and efficiently, thanks to its unique design and superior performance. One of its main features is the ability to connect directly to pipes without welding, significantly enhancing installation efficiency and reducing safety hazards associated with welding processes. Correct installation of threaded flanges is a crucial step in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of pipeline systems. Below, we will detail the steps for installing threaded flanges and provide some precautions to ensure a smooth installation process and achieve the desired results.

1. Prepare the Pipeline

Before beginning the installation, it is essential to clean the pipe ends thoroughly to ensure that their surfaces are free from any rust, dust, or other impurities. This can be accomplished by using appropriate cleaning tools and solvents. Additionally, inspect the threads on the pipe and inside the flange to ensure they are clean, intact, and free from damage or rust.

2. Apply Sealing Material

Apply polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) tape or thread sealant to the threaded end of the pipe. This step is crucial as it helps to form a reliable seal, preventing leaks and protecting the threads from corrosion. Wrap the PTFE tape clockwise around the threads, ensuring it does not loosen during the installation process.

3. Connect the Flange

Gently screw the threaded flange onto the pipe end. This initial stage can be done manually to ensure the flange aligns correctly with the pipe.

4. Tighten the Flange

Use the appropriate tool, such as a pipe wrench, to gradually tighten the flange onto the pipe. Exercise caution during tightening to avoid exerting excessive force, which may damage the threads or cause other harm.

5. Align the Flanges

Ensure that the holes of the connected flanges are aligned. This is an important step in ensuring that the bolts are properly installed and form an effective seal. One of the flanges should be a free flange for easier disassembly in the future.

6. Install Gaskets

Place gaskets between the faces of the two flanges to ensure a seal. It is crucial to select suitable gaskets based on the operating conditions and pressure ratings of the pipeline.

7. Install Bolts

Insert bolts into the flange holes and tighten the nuts. The number and size of bolts depend on the flange size and pressure rating, ensuring they comply with relevant standards and regulations.

8. Final Tightening

Use the appropriate tool to tighten each nut individually. It is generally recommended to tighten the bolts in a crosswise sequence, first tightening one bolt and then its opposite, to ensure the flange is evenly stressed and forms a strong connection.

Upon completing these steps, the installation of threaded flanges is successfully finished. These simple yet crucial steps ensure the safe operation and efficient performance of pipeline systems. By correctly installing threaded flanges, we not only improve installation efficiency and reduce safety risks during installation but also ensure the reliability and sealing of connections. Therefore, threaded flanges serve as an ideal choice for pipeline connections, providing a solid foundation for the successful operation of engineering projects.
